Cat's
claw (U. Tomentosa) has been used
medicinally by the native
tribes of Peru for at least 2,000 years; this is a tremendous
vote of confidence and safety record when you think about it.
Cat's claw was, and is still used to treat asthma, inflammations
of the urinary tract, arthritis, rheumatism, and bone pain; to
recover from childbirth; as a kidney cleanser; to cure deep
wounds; to control inflammation and gastric ulcers; and for
cancer in these areas. The shaman of these ancient Peruvian
tribes had the wisdom to know that the herb could be used to
treat tumors, inflammations, rheumatism, and gastric ulcers.
This is something that even modern medicine has not been able to
grasp! Its use is not just limited to the above mentioned, this
herb has tremendous across the board affects in treating
pathologies such as diabetes, urinary tract cancer in women,
hemorrhages, menstrual irregularity, cirrhosis, fevers,
abscesses, gastritis, rheumatism and inflammations as well as
for internal cleansing and to bring the body back into balance.
In other parts of the world cat's claw has been used since the
early 1990s as an adjunctive treatment for cancer and AIDS as
well as for other diseases that target the immune system. Even
today the holistic community still uses cat's claw to treat many
of the same conditions that is was used for by the ancients.
Some of the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorders have
responded well to the use of this herb. Its ability to cleanse
the entire intestinal tract and its effectiveness in treating
stomach and bowel disorders (such as Crohn's disease, leaky
bowel syndrome, ulcers, gastritis, diverticulitis, and other
inflammatory conditions of the bowel, stomach, and intestines)
is unparalleled. Even some main stream medical professionals
report using cat's claw for its immune-stimulating effects, for
cancer, to help prevent strokes and heart attacks, to reduce
blood clots, and for diverticulitis and irritable bowel
syndrome. Cat’s claw contains a unique blend of natural plant
chemicals that help the body along in its search for balance and
health. The active ingredients in cat’s claw are alkaloids
called phenol quinones and terpenes. The types of alkaloids that
are found in cats claw have a antimutogenic (prevent cell
mutation) affect, and have antioxidant properties in addition to
having antiviral and anti-inflammatory capabilities. More
specifically, six of the alkaloids found in Cats Claw have been
isolated from the plant's inner bark and are responsible for its
effect on the immune system. And a strong immune system can have
far reaching health effects over the long term. †
